Greetings dear Friends,
Beginning this week, the multi award winning film SKIN is an “Exceptional true story – impressive.” (David Stratton) about a girl born black to white parents in the harrowing apartheid years. The struggle between tradition, the law and what is right is the strength of this film which actualises the sense of futility, desperation & remorse. "An extraordinary story, one that only real life could invent. You won't forget this film in a hurry" (Urban Cinefile).
I saw the Russian French thriller FAREWELL on Friday and it has joined the ranks of my favourite films! Based on little-known real events that led to the end of the Soviet bloc, this is a surprising and compelling story. 4 Stars from David Stratton too!
From London’s Albert Hall comes the incredible musical Monty Python-esque performance created by Eric Idle of NOT THE MESSIAH (HE’S A VERY NAUGHTY BOY!) This hilarious take on The Messiah is billed as “like Handel, only funnier.” Based on Monty Python’s LIFE OF BRIAN, it features the BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, a host of superb soloists - very impressive!
This weekend only - tickets selling very well with great seats still available.
It’s been about 80 years since they were the talk of the town, but the COMEDIAN HARMONISTS still have an alluring magnetism. It’s an enticing film, a masterpiece told in a loving and respectful way which generates genuine interest in the men and their music - the true brotherhood of men who love to sing. We have a special night to celebrate these magical musicians with dessert, wine and live music. Come along and be entranced!
I love our ITALIAN NIGHTS, and I’m very much looking forward to this one. After Italian nibbles drinks, and live music the Italian Film Festival Favourite L’ULTIMO PULCHINELLA – THE LAST PULCHINELLA will screen - a powerful film about a changing world and the power of theatre to bridge the gap between people. Come and enjoy a special night together.
“EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY” is a new LIVE MUSICAL COMEDY. In a real coup, we have it playing here before the Sydney NIDA season opens. With its laughter, tears, romance and reconciliation, it taps into the Aussie spirit of competition and 'a fair go'. It will touch you... and leave you standing and cheering! There are 2 shows only - book early for the best seats!
Next week SECOND HAND WEDDING begins. ! It’s in the genre of 4 Weddings, Nottinghill and Love Actually, and will have you leaving the Theatre with a huge grin on your face. EXCLUSIVE TO AVOCA and one not to miss!
See you at the Theatre soon,
Beth
